On Sunday, September 23, 2007 Michelyn Cynthia Butler's hard work and dedication to her dream paid off when she was crowned Miss Wisconsin USA 2008. She is extremely proud to represent the state of Wisconsin and serve as an example to young women that persistence pays!

One of Michelyn's goals in life is to broaden the perception of success for young people. "I want to show youngsters that with commitment and focus they can be intelligent and earn good grades, all while becoming stellar athletes, singers, models, or whatever their dreams may be." said Michelyn. She is deeply grateful to her father for emphasizing this important value throughout her life. Michelyn's father, Michael Butler, was a first-round draft pick for the Green Bay Packers and was also NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1977. Her parents and close-knit family have always stressed the importance of education, extracurricular activities, and volunteerism, which has shaped the young woman that Michelyn has become.

Whether through her career path or volunteer work as a mentor, Michelyn has always aimed to be a change agent, particularly in the lives of children. She is currently a second-year graduate student in the Educational Psychology department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she is pursuing her doctorate in School Psychology with a minor in Early Education Policy Studies. When she is not busy with her academic work, Michelyn enjoys mentoring (especially the freshmen student athletes at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), volunteering for various charitable causes, running, and her one vice--shopping! Michelyn is also classically trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, and tap dance and has a passion for the performing arts.

Michelyn will dedicate her reign as Miss Wisconsin USA 2008 to increasing awareness of the importance of mentoring young people to broaden their perception of success and making their dreams reality.
